About this Event

Le Pub is absolutely delighted to welcome Adam Meakins to take a look at some old skool gym culture and bro-science that actually has some good research and science behind it. He will explore the role of mental imagery, self talk, and other psych tactics often used in gyms that can be applied to other areas on healthcare and life in general.

There will be some fun with practical demonstrations of mental imagery, self talk, and other psych tactics used to get stronger and maybe even some arm wrestling!

Escape the clinic, grab a beer and share the science...

Adam Meakins

In his career, Adam has worked in many roles, including professional sport and has been fortunate enough to work with, and learn from some of the worlds leading specialists. Adam has helped a wide and diverse range of people from professional athletes to the general public and understands the importance of robust progressive rehab is integral in the recovery of any injury. Also as a keen sportsman himself, he fully understands the passion, dedication, and desire that all athletes have for a speedy return back to performance.

Adam is trained in the use of extended assessment and treatment interventions, such as diagnostic ultrasound scanning, isokinetic dynamometry testing, force plate analysis. and guided steroid and local anaesthetic injections. However, Adam always looks for the most effective and evidence-based treatments to help patients and athletes of all levels recover as quickly as possible, with his main philosophy being to do the basics really really well and save the complex stuff for later if it’s needed.

Adam strongly believes in a no-nonsense simple, practical, and evidenced-based approach and is passionate about educating both patients and therapists on the vast differences in the effectiveness and evidence of the many fancy ‘alternative’ treatments within this profession.

Adam has been a lecturer for Brunel University on their undergraduate physiotherapy program, but now teaches his own highly acclaimed shoulder workshops across the world. Adam is also actively involved in a number of clinical research projects and has published papers in peer-reviewed journals, and written a chapter for the latest edition of the best selling sports medicine book, Brukner & Khan’s Clinical Sports Medicine.

Adam can often be found speaking at various conferences & professional events on subjects in and around sports injury. He is a strong advocate of the use of social media to share ideas and disseminate information. He also has become one of the most followed physiotherapists due to his honest, if at times direct and controversial opinions. Adam can be found and followed on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. You can also email inquiries to adam@thesports.physio
